Boaty Mcboatface • 1 year ago

This anime had a super normie ending but the delivery of everything before that was surprisingly good

Byno • 1 year ago

Wait, so Hack was a girl this entire time?

DiStort • 1 year ago

I remember one of the promotional blurbs for this show described Hack as "a girl that looks like a boy," so I don't think it was a secret or anything. It just wasn't really relevant to the plot until now.

Byno • 1 year ago

I see XD

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

Hell, the description for this anime on THIS SITE mentions it...
Also, it's still not relevant to the plot. Hack could have been male and be a little boy in the sequence we saw and it would have been the same. I guess viewers' perception could have been affected - seeing some kind of romantic implications where there are none, for example.

*Mindblown* 😲😲

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 1 year ago

At least we finally know Hack's gender. It feels like they avoided using he or she around Hack on purpose in each episode.

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

To be fair, the original language doesn't have any concept of he or she. There are feminine or masculine ways of talking, but referring to something is more of a "that person" rather than "he or she".
That's why you often see some surprise from gender in anime - like "this person we were talking about and I expected to be a guy is actually a girl!" or whatnot.

Thistlesniffs • 1 year ago

You might know Hack's gender at birth but that says nothing of how they personally identify... seems through the show Hack avoided gendered pronouns for themself. Personally I think Hack is a good example of a non-binary character in anime so I'll continue to use the singular "they" from them.

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 1 year ago

Ok, if that is your preference... but do you find it normal to not have someone's 1 and only gender not mentioned at all during the entire show except for the last episode? Also, 'they' is a plural form, don't you mean to say 'it' since it is singular?

Kiwi • 1 year ago

"They" can be singular and it's a gender neutral pronoun, usually used when someone's gender is unknown (sounds a lot better than constantly repeating "he/she" imo). Iirc it was even used in literature from a long time ago, so it's not something nb people made up.

"It" typically refers to an object, sometimes animals, so it's a disrespectful way to address a person.

Asagrimmr • 1 year ago

"The story begins when Berry, an average girl from an average home, meets Hack, a girl who looks like a boy." It's been known since before the first episode aired

They is a very commonly used word to refer to a singular person without specifying gender

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 1 year ago

I haven't seen when they mentioned that. Was it in the first episode or where?

I thought the same, lol.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

I feel silly referring to her as a he in my previous comments lol.

Now that I think about it, Hack DID come off as a tomboy given what we've seen from her.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

Indeed

Byno • 1 year ago

That's why I don't comment as much lmao

vovan1 • 1 year ago

I though he/she/it was just a plot device, so i belive i didn't comment on him/her/it. The true MC here was the world they lived in and society.

Noah Winns-Cromer • 1 year ago

OK that opening sequence, like the first minute, BEAUTIFUL!

That's Science Saru at their best!

joblesshobo • 1 year ago

That was pretty underwhelming conclusion. You could just post an ad for job opening instead.

wwlaos • 1 year ago

Yeah, last episode really dropped the ball. :/

vovan1 • 1 year ago

I hear ya, looking for just and pure individuals. 1 billion applicants.

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

Agreed... it doesn't even really solve the problem. It's like they just have a new dictator who's changed a few policies.
In fact, this could just be the downfall of their society. Injecting all that extra money (love) into the economy isn't necessarily a good thing. It could trigger their economic collapse.

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 1 year ago

As far as originals go of anime and Noah has put it the art/animation/visuals are good alone but the story was a little too much of a under polish gem and could have had bit more time to be better. Also the ending was underwhelming and lackluster but it ended on a good note it gets a pass from me.

Also surprise Hack is a reverse trap which I and many others did not see that coming.

I rate the same as Noah for 6/10 which it's decent but average though and ofc I higher rate some of the original anime's when it's time to end like Lycoris Recoil for example.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

Not gonna rate, this was an ex-course to some good ideas. Lets hope it inspires someone to make them more presentable animation. Nice thing about this anime, it was so normal you can show it to 8-year old's and expect them to learn something.

True dat

So a Customer Care official was behind the whole Phantom Zero phenomenon ? Lol talk about your own staff creating troubles for your management. Also, kind of funny how Injunction Jo just created the mess, recruited a new slave person to work for her, and went on a trip. Big brain move, though I wonder whether she notified Customer Care about her leave or just took off lol.

Also what actually happened to Hack's parents ( if that dream was real ) - are they dead or something else? And what about Hackitt - was the dude real or just a script created by Injunction Jo?

Well all's well that ends well. Wonder what sort of Ramen Watson makes ?

Final verdict: An okay series 6/10. It could have been more intriguing and a bit darker and the plot too had much potential but it was mostly a kid-friendly version with a dystopian setting.

KuroroSama42 • 1 year ago

Did you not understand what happened? There was no "mess" - it was all orchestrated. Injunction Jo is the CEO that the Customer Care Center doesn't know about and Hack has now taken that role. Phantom Zero was just a way to manipulate the Customer Care employees (and other citizens) into achieving the desired results. Rather than "creating troubles", it's "giving direction" if you want to simplify it.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

It was all a part of retirement plan for gov. employees xD

IStandAlone Roronoa Zoro • 1 year ago

I liked it that it had a happy ending for everyone. The plot had some rushed content, especially at the end. It felt like cramming the idea of Hack taking over the digital world instead of Jo. I did however approved of Hack's thinking that "we should only believe in what we see", which many religions could take a note from. Hack deserved to take over, but make it the way it should be - for everyone to see everything and no secrets anymore. Decent ending, but weak buld-up and some boring episodes.

Overall Rating: 6/10.

Yurei Deco is brought to you by Science SARU, the studio behind Keep Your Hands OFf Eizoukan, Devilman Crybaby 2018, Heike Monogatari, and recently worked on Star Wars Visions and the anime movie Inu-Oh, which I got to see last month, the film's good. I recommend it.
Yurei Deco is basically when you combine George Orwell's 1984, with a mix of Deca Dance and Ready Player One. That's essentially the plot in a nutshell. Like with their other works, Science SARU goes all out into the art and animation and it's actually pretty. The show is an 8/10 just from that department alone, it's actually vibrant, easily one of the best this year in terms of visuals. Unfortunately, that's all I got in terms of positives.
The plot, as you can tell, is undercooked and frankly could've used a lot more time in the oven. There are good ideas but either they were done poorly or again, could've used more thought process. The characters are OK but none stand out. Berry is plain, Finn, while I like, his backstory is cliche, and I wish we got more from Hack. Also, did not know Hack was a girl. The rest...ehh, whatever. Simply put, they're...well, simple. Even the OST could've used more work. Just listen to the OST from Eizoukan and Inu-oh and listen to this OST, and you can see there's a lot to be desired.
Honestly, this is a mixed bag, and not everyone's gonna enjoy this. I really wanted to like this, but this ain't it. Had they spent more time on areas I think this could've been quite the gem. Lovey, I do not with this. You're better off watching Deca Dance, it's basically similar to this but far better.
Final Verdict: 6/10

Well I think that I will miss them 🙂

Jefferson Steelflex • 1 year ago

I found this anime a bit boring in the first episodes, but it got more engaging as it went on. I can see why some may feel frustrated if they came expecting a deep plot. At least it didn't feel too pretentious for its own good, as the dialogue indicates the production team didn't take themselves too seriously.
All in all, a competent series. The viewer just needs to adjust his expectations to avoid disappointments.
